LAGUNA UNVEILS WORLD'S BIGGEST UBE DESSERT

The province of Laguna headed by Gov. Teresita “Ningning” S. Lazaro once again takes center stage as it unveiled March 14 the World’s Biggest Ube Halaya at the Provincial Capitol Compound in the capital town Sta. Cruz.

This is one of the highlights of the weeklong AniLag Festival that started March 9.

Named last year as the Philippines’ Best Tourism Event in the Provincial Category, the festival is now on its 4th year.

Exclusively covered by GMA network’s morning program Unang Hirit hosted by TV hosts Eagle Riggs and Drew Arellano, the approximately 1,000 kg dessert was presented to the public.
Shaped like a tilapia fish, the 2 to 4-inch delicacy was placed on a platform measuring 24 by 16 ft. Ingredients include 698 kgs of ube, 358 kgs of gabi, 26 kgs of cassava, 719 kgs white sugar, 374 cans of condensed milk, 174 cans of evaporated milk, 39 pcs butter, and 45 pcs dairy cream. It was later on shared and given to the public who savored the sweet root-crop product of Laguna.

Dessert makers who collectively made the unique delicacy were 4 Angels Special Ube Ha-laya of Calamba City; D’Becina Ube Halaya, Tentay and Idang Ube Halaya, and Romalyns Spe-cial Ube of San Pablo City; Miña Ube Special, Glo-Mars Food Products, and Edna’s Special Ube of Nagcarlan; and Ludy’s Sweet Products of Siniloan.
