IMMERSE TO THE RESORTS OF SAN PABLO AND SEARCH ITS MYTHS

Visitors of resorts in San Pablo can totally enjoy the mirth it offers if they can discover the unique stories of their simple beginnings, where synopsis will spark splendor. Summed up by aspiration accomplished through patience and perseverance.

Each resort has its own story to tell unparalleled by any plot of whoever playwright though events may be subtle but just the same, the human interest behind is inviting, that clamors universal appeal. Resorts, big or small in this city, rests on solid foundations where legends though untold are interesting discovery and fine as any other success story one can hear and learn.

Its name will suggest how it got started. This year’s run-away winner as best resort in the province was once a garden, supplier of ornamental plants and grasses for best landscapers in Manila. It eventually became family rendezvous during weekends until it indulged to the wishes of the clan that a swimming pool be built.

Even then, indulgence was not that easy. The owner had to take into account the financial aspect of the facility yet when there is passion positively visualized, the tough gets going. Honoring his grandmothers on both sides, Mr. Alex Emlano labeled it MARIA PAZ Royale Garden Resort at Barangay Sta. Filomena (Banlagin).

Faith established TIERRA DE ORO Hotel and Resort in Barangay San Antonio (Balanga) along the stretch of Km. 89 Maharlika Highway. Tourism statistics in the city was still blurred, project study was based to none yet faith always beat science. Atty. and Mrs. Marius Zabat have faith in their venture, they have on tourist discriminating taste, they have faith on fellow San Pableños and they have faith in themselves. When faith to a vision resides, nobody will ever fail.

The impetus is for nature, built primarily as butterfly habitat, DIOKO’S BUTTERFLY FARM and RESORT gained well-deserved prominence out of this extra-ordinary sanctuary, it housed insects that symbolized flowering plants, later with other wild life and fowls, this resort is one of the best thing to happen in Brgy. San Joaquin and to City of Seven Lakes as well.

With a heart that listens, heart that understands and heart that cares ROCKPOINT HOTEL and RESORT is the city’s last hurrah. Owned and operated by Antonio Family at Brgy. San Antonio 2 (SAPA), this resort-hotel offers personalized service at its best, so tempting for tourist to end their journey to rest and relax, on modern ambiance yet with environment of tranquility. In fact its an edifice with a heart.

Enjoy the cool and calmness of resorts in San Pablo City and immerse to search the myths. (SANDY BELARMINO/7LPC)

I share the belief that Education is the foundation and pillar of our children’s future:”

(7LPC)

(RET/7LPC)

BRIEFING ON "COOP PESOS" ISINAGAWA NG CCO

Isa na rito ang pagsasagawa ng briefing on “COOP PESOS” (Compliance Operations and Mgt.,Plans and Programs, Portfolio Quality, Efficiency, Stability, Operations, Structure of Assets) sa pamumuno nina Acting Coop.

(Jonathan Aningalan/CIO)

SCIENCE AND MATH TEACHERS---WE NEED YOU!

SAN PABLO CITY SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL needs Science and Math majors to teach the City's select students.

If you are a LET-passer, proud to show your TOR and passionate about excellence, then you are the teacher for SPCSHS. Please get in touch with Mrs. Helen Ramos, Science Supervisor of the DepEd Division of San Pablo City at SPCSHS, DLSP Campus, Barangay San Jose or call (049) 800-0904 / 09053243512.

Ang political sacrilege ayon sa kanya ay hindi biglang nakakamit dahil ito ay ang maingat na pamamahala at paglilingkod ng isang public servant, na sa katagalan ay “you have touched the lives of all your constituencies with more than half of the total number directly reaping benefits and classified as satisfied.”

(SANDY BELARMINO/VP seven lakes press corps)

A TALE OF TWO LADIES

Theirs are public lives that could be summed-up with simplicity, poise and silence yet at the other side they could pro-actively deliver beating their male counter part, yet again they remain humble as if telling everyone, these work loads should have to be done, while others dare the tasks, no other choice shouldn’t be left undone.

These are their common traits as silent performers, they humbly deliver fanfare in the name of public service benefiting their constituents, be at the city or countryside. Let’s discover more the natural talents in them.

CONGRESSWOMAN IVY ARAGO-

How many times has you heard when anybody says: “I wouldn’t run for congress if it’s Ivy I had to beat”. He may be right, Cong. Ivy is hard to beat. She’s tough and even tougher at the homestretch. She works hard and aims even harder if the situation suggests. She sets her goal and seemed tireless till she accomplishes it. She never stops and won’t settle for anything less.

There are some of her in-born qualities so who would beat that? Her mindset is focused on where she is needed most. No excuse, no complain and won’t even surrender if what she’ll do she thinks is right. There’ll be even no reluctance on her part even if it will mean crossing the seas, traveling by air or walking on the trails, just to get to where the problem is.

There’s no problem big or small that escapes attention for her strict scrutiny. She was Chairman of the Committee on Water of the City Council when the necessity of Public hearing arises. She needed background information for the committee she heads, she trekked the trails of Malabanban Water Shed , climb mountain for the technical knowledge and in return the committee hearing went on as scheduled with corresponding legislation made.

Her energy to reach people is an asset. No barangay was too remote, no house was too far and no voters are too few in her campaign sorties the fact that she meets more people above all others combined. It always pays off. She top the councilors’ derby in 2004, then surprised political heavyweights last May 2007 in her quest for the congressional seat.

San Pablo City’s Sangguniang Panlunsod loss is Laguna’s Third District gain but nobody as saying goes ever go too far on literal stiff neck. She makes it a point to turn back whenever necessary.

The fate of thousand workers at Franklin Baker Co. benefited from her caresses. Before anyone else took notice, she was in Singapore talking to its new owners, conserving the little amount of chances to save the company from closing shop. Negotiations are still ongoing. No wonder Cong. Ivy continues to live up from her constituent’s expectations. She always enhances the pulse of the people. Lately she responded to the calls of majority of San Pableños’ dream when she filed HB 2662 in Congress. She’s on the track to people’s aspiration, a return of seven wonderful lakes to the city and its populace who really own them.

Kudos to Beauty and Brain Congresswoman Ivy Arago!

COUNCILOR ELLEN T. REYES-

This woman shines from among her peers as public servant, as silent achiever on her own right, a complete epitome of her advocacies, a career woman who feels her day to be empty if her accomplishment is nil as she is a replica of what a model woman in public service should be. Her worthy activities uplifted many in the past, yet remains unweary until now and surely the days to come.

Councilor Ellen T. Reyes didn’t run to be a city legislator, she was rewarded by her achievements , pushed forward by her simplicity, compounded by outstanding deeds as she was prevailed upon to assume a seat at Sangguniang Panlunsod, though even then as candidate she was considered as run away winner.

As workaholic. Coun. Ellen’s policy is hands on everything she does. She’s quite particular even to the smallest details so as to make sure the results will be in its nearest perfection. Her industry and talents compliments compatibility which put all things in right order. She may not know that she’s an object of envy as a result of her passion for completeness.

When she’s not around in her 6th storey-suite office at City Hall Building, it doesn’t mean she’s not working, when SP is not in session it doesn’t mean inactivity or anywhere around the City Hall compound it doesn’t mean she hibernating because chances are, she’s in her kingdom in a secluded place called Women Center where her advocacies began.

She’s always there busy training housewives, she’s there to change lives of her constituents and she’s there giving hope to the unemployed. she’s always there giving her share a war against poverty, a mandate she imposed upon herself for love of mankind.(SANDY BELARMINO)

Huwag mo sana akong pagtatawanan o pagsasawaang pakinggan.

(ERMIE POLICARPIO/Laguna Courier-April 14-20, 2008)

SAN PABLO CITY SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL - A REALM OF BRIGHT MINDS

If there’s something Manila, Quezon City and San Pablo City have in common as far as education is concerned, the wild guess will be – its City Science High School.

The importance of the specialized school of learning can be glimpsed or measure through the establishment of Manila Science High School way back in years at a place where the best universities and colleges stood proud on casting talents that had shaped and laid foundations of the Filipino nation, as well as minds that had built business empires and knowledge which sustained the virtuous of the academe. These schools by the way also offer secondary level of education.

The rationale behind every Science High School throughout the country is to enhance the academic excellence brought by high intelligence quotient (IQ) of elementary school graduates by providing them extra level of knowledge denied to ordinary students due to lack or poor mental receptions. Manila was followed by Quezon City, Tacloban City and some key regions of the country. The Cities of Pasay, Makati and Pasig also found the good reason of establishing Science High School of their own.

Meanwhile, Mayor Vicente B. Amante’s vision acknowledged the exigency – hence the foundation of San Pablo City Science High School (SPCSHS) three years ago. Next year, its first graduating class will march maybe not on their borrowed campus. Based on breaking news, the City Government will soon build SPCSHS its own home near DLSP. Actually it’s already on the drawing board, Mayor Amante upon consultation with DepEd, a building of ten classrooms will soon rise on a wide and spacious campus – the future realm of bright minds.

Congratulations to San Pablo City Science High School for reaching new heights, to Mrs. Helen Ramos, Head Teacher, to the faculty and employees, and to the students for clinging together with faith and for bearing with the school in its infancy years. (SANDY BELARMINO/VP-7LPC)

SANGGUNIANG PANLUNSOD: AN EMPTY HALL WITHOUT DR. EGAY ADAJAR

San Pablo City – There are imaginary frames on everything which bound the limit of its existence. It’s a fact of life that that may not be at where are today hadn’t somebody before us toiled on useful new discoveries for our comfort. Can you imagine what the world would be without our heroes as well as scientists who took the pain in their days?

Stretched to the limits, some is true with our Sangguniang Panlunsod which created a vacuum due to compulsory provision of the law that mandated only three (3) successive terms. It had to remove a prominent figure who sparks the excitement through debates and legal arguments. It will not be the same again with no Dr. Egay Adajar on its halls.

But why miss a man? He’s a hell a councilor who happened to sponsor 800 resolutions and ordinances in his nine (9) years of stint in the chamber, a record still unbroken as of today. But it needs guts to have it accomplished, besides the premium of 46 lawsuits filed against him, that were pure and simple harassment to destroy his image, filed mostly by the previous city administration. As of now, he has to confront five (5) more cases as others were outrightly dismissed by the courts.

Dr. Egay was the simple reason of High School Annexes strategically located in different barangays of San Pablo City. Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo (DLSP) will not become as it is if not for him, likewise the protection children was one of his advocacies while the indigency program that assists poor San Pableños was an inspiration from his ordinance, plus many others credited to his name.

The sleepy atmosphere at Sangguniang Panlunsod despite the privilege speeches in its halls by the same perennial speaker who refused to be interpolated is enough proof of Dr. Egay’s absence in its halls, where nobody as of today had come to replaced him, much so come nearer the performances he ever achieved. Old timers at the City Hall of San Pablo recalls that Taningco, then connected with the Office of the City Engineer, was assigned to provide communication support to the Technology Transfer Program being implemented by the Field Office of the defunct National Science Development Board (NSDB) for Southern Tagalog based in this City by former Mayor Cesar P. SAN PABLEÑA ADDS ANOTHER FEATHER TO HER CAP

San Pablo City - There’s no way stopping her! Ms. Isabelita Marcelo Abele, Filipina-American President and CEO of US Lumber, Inc., in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey in U.S.A. received another award last March 31 for being one of the New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business in 2008.

Ms. Abele, a native of Barangay San Miguel, San Pablo City, has been a consistent recipient of Outstanding Filipino-American Award in the field of business in the United States.

In 2005, she received the Asian Entrepreneur of the Year Award during a recognition dinner in Washington D.C. Corollary to this and because of $10 million sales of her timber business, she was given the 2005 Enterprising Women of the Year Award in a special ceremony at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

In 2004, Abele was named one of the 25 Women of Influence for NJ BIZ and the Philadelphia Business Journal; Woman of the Year for the Girl Scouts of South Jersey Pines and was a finalist for the Wells Fargo Asian American Business Leadership Award.

Her success story is worth emulating because it is built upon courage and tenacity. When she left the Philippines to seek new opportunities in America, she was confronted with diverse problems but like a true blue blooded San Pableña, she managed to swim against the tide and meet all the adversities head-on. One good thing about Abele is her ability to learn from challenges and mistakes and the courage to put whatever disadvantages she has into positive selling points.

She said during one of her speeches, “No one has the right to strip us of our freedoms. To fulfill our dreams we must take risk. At the same time, all of us must bring humanity to everything we do. Success in life is not measured in dollars and cents. It is measured in the everyday things we do and how well we do them.”

One of her rare achievements is having been selected as a “Top-Idea Maven” by the Woman’s Advantage. Her quotes will appear in the 2008 Woman’s Advantage Calendar.

During the 2006 San Pablo City Annual Cocofest, Ms. Abele was the special guest of Mayor Vicente B. Amante who conferred to her the Outstanding San Pableña Awards. (MEL B.C. EVANGELISTA/7LPC)

(Jonathan Aningalan)

ONE STOP PROCESSING FOR LOCAL LICENSEES

San Pablo City - Now on its 13th year, the processing of documents for renewal of business permits inside the building constructed specifically for that purpose, continue to lure or entice observers from far and near local government units, to include some mayors from Papua New Gunea and Vietnam, according to City Administrator Loreto S. Amante, who personally supervised the processing activities at the now famous One Stop Processing Center of San Pablo City.

As a norm established by Mayor Vicente B. Amante in January of 1996 to fast track the processing of applications for renewal of business permit and license, all offices and agencies involved in the processing of the documents assigned responsible personnel at the One Stop Processing Center, viz: Office of the City Engineer, City Health Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Office of the City Assessor. The City Treasurer and the Chief of Business Permit and License Division have permanent spaces or cubicles at the center.

The Department of Trade and Industry, the Social Security System (SSS), the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and the National Food Authority are also being provided with spaces up to the 20th day of January.

If the applicants could present all the requirements prescribed by law, the processing must be completed within 30 minutes, but sometimes, the movement of papers are delayed at the Cashier’s Counter because as a rule, only bonded Treasury personnel are authorized to accept payments and to issue the corresponding receipt in behalf of the City Treasurer.

Miss Marieta P. Mabilangan, Chief of the Business Permit and License Division, said application for renewal of business permit and license will be accepted up to January 20, and delayed applicants will be charged with a 25% surcharge of the fees they are suppose to pay. She added that new registrant will be entertain after January 20.

A planning officers from Palau, and a district mayor from Vietnam, made a common observation that the Amante”s One Stop Processing Center is truly functional, for it is a temple where mass wedding are being held; a theater for it is an ideal venue for public convocations; and a gymnasium/auditorium where cultural presentation can be performed. It is an atrium or court yard for investment-friendly local government transactions.(7LPC)

Natatanging San Pableño, uliran at matulungin

Di man siya Inhenyero, nagpumilit makagawa

Kalusugan! Edukasyon! At kalinga nitong puso!

BRIEF HISTORY OF MALINAW LODGE NO. 25

The first glimmer of light of Masonry in the City of San Pablo was sparked by its prominent residents who were members of Manila Lodges , namely, LOGIA NILAD, WALANA, DALISAY and SINUKUAN. The historic date was the first half of the year 1912. Fourteen masons met in the house of Feliciano F. Exconde and first formed a “triangulo”, then LOGIA MALINAW NO. 340. It was granted “Gran Consejo de la Ordern” on October 23, 1912 by the “Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas” under the jurisdiction of “Grande Oriente Español”, which was then headed by Dr. Miguel Morayta.

The fourteen fourteen (14) founders were: FELICIANO F. EXCONDE, MELECIO FULE, ZACARIAS B. SAHAGUN, DALMACIO AQUINO, MARCIAL ALIMARIO, MARTIN ALVERO, MIGUEL LEONOR, EUSEBIO DIAWATAN, SANTIAGO GUTIERREZ, ANTONIO AGUIRRE, DAVID AGUIRRE, ROSENDO REYES, MARIANO SAYO AND CATALINO VILLAS.

The first principal officers were: Worshipful Master Feliciano F. Exconde, Senior Warden Mariano Sayo, Junior Warden Antonio Aguirre, Treasurer Miguel Leonor and Secretary David Aguirre.

Malinaw Lodge No., 340 of San Pablo City was granted its Charter on February 14, 1917 by the “Gran Logia de Masones Libres y aceptados de las Islas Filipinas” (Grand Lodge of F.& A.M. of the Philippines) and became MALINAW LODGE NO. 25.

The word MALINAW was culled from Brgy MALINAW (San Lucas 1 & 2) of San Pablo City where most of the founders originated.

The first meetings of the lodge were held in the residence of Feliciano F. Exconde. The following year, meetings were convened in the house of Dalmacio Celino as the membership grew in number. Further increase, forced the “brotherhood” to transfer to the second floor of the building owned by Mr. Pablo Tan.

The Masons, desirous to build a permanent meeting place, organized MALINAW TEMPLE ASSOCIATION, INC. for that purpose. Their fervent desire was realized when a two-storey building was erected in 1919 in Gen. Luna St., in 1925, the local government expropriated the site to build a hospital (now the Panlalawigan Pagamutan ng Laguna or the District Hospital). After two years, the government also bought the adjacent lot where the “temple” was relocated to construct a nurses’ dormitory. A lot was bought in the corner of T. Azucena and J. Zulueta Sts.

Without a temple to hold their meetings, the “brotherhood” rented a space in the Escudero building in Bonifacio St. This was so until the outbreak of World War II. The labors of the lodge was suspended from 1942-1945 when the Japanese occupied the building. Records and paraphernalia were either lost or destroyed. The Lodge meetings were resumed in 1946. They convened in the office (at old City Hall Building of San Pablo) of Meliton Cruz, a member of Malolos Lodge No. 46, who was then the City Treasurer of San Pablo. After a time, the venue was transferred to the house of Werner P. Schetelig in Barangay Concepcion.

Spearheaded by Werner P. Schetelig, Howard R. Hick, Cirilo O. Constantino, Eduardo L. Constantino, Celso P. Borja, Rouben C. Belulia and many more dedicated masons, a new temple was completed in 1948 at its present site. A portion of the lot bought before the war was sold to finance the building of the temple.

Hence the Malinaw Temple was erected three (3) times, firstly in the spot which is now the Panlalawigan Pagamutan ng Laguna (PPL), secondly, on the lot adjacent to the hospital, and thirdly, on its present site at the corner of Azucena and Zulueta sts..

To date, the Lodge has ninety-four (94) active members, almost half of this are “life members by longevity.”

The Malinaw Lodge is proud to have two (2) of its members occupied the “Grand Oriental Chair”- Mr. WERNER P. SCHETELIG and Mr. HOWARD R. HICK. Two others, Mr. CIRILO O. CONSTANTINO and RUBIN A. ALCANTARA served as “District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District No. 11.”

Today, Malinaw Lodge No. 25 is very much visible in the community through its charitable institution-the Malinaw Foundation, Inc. (sandy belarmino/Demosthenes B. Bienvenida)

VISION NOW AND BEYOND

It has become probably a personal obsession. I always observe the few remaining days of the passing year and early days of New Year reserve for a holistic assessment of the state of my own home city San Pablo. The best way to do it is to feel the pulse of its constituent and to scrutinize the performance of its leadership. Refection of the state of the city is the mirror and shadow of its people and leadership. I assess the state of the City using some parameters as follows:

Power, Communication and Transportation

Last year in the same news paper if we recall I highlighted the vision of Mayor Vicente B Amante in an article entitled “ Year That Was”. Mayor Vic Amante emphasized then the need to lay down the basic infrastructures to put a strong base for the ultimate take off of the City to become highly urbanize and progressive. The base consists of roads and bridges to easily reach the farthest tip of the city then accessible only to people walking on foot or mounted on horse back. The feeder roads are in place, concrete and had been widened. Such serve as arteries supplying symbiotically the rustic Barangays of amenities from the Poblacion and the Poblacion is supplied with cheap goods reaped from backyard plantation. They are the blood-life of economy

Communication is no longer problem. Radios (hand held) are available and cellular phone abound. If Barangays are easy to reach it is much, much easier and faster to hear them not only in Poblacion but anywhere else around the world.. Events taking place in San Pablo can be viewed through community television channels.

Let there be light and there was light. No it was not part of the six-day creation written in Genesis of the Holy Bible but light from electricity. The far flung areas of San Pablo are lighted courtesy of Mayor Vic Amante,’s electrification program. Students need not burn their brows to learn their lesson from schools constructed too through the efforts of Mayor Vic.

Private vehicles, PUJ, Tricycles, Buses and Vans for hire sprouts like mushrooms because of crisscrossing passable streets and highways. Twenty four hour, transport is not a problem. Accessibility lures too some investors to put up plants and factories in the Barangays. Their emergence has offered some opportunities to our jobless skilled workers to earn a living within their community..

Economics

The base infrastructures triggered a gradual growth of a balance economy. Not so abrupt to dislocate some sectors but not too slow to be left behind by the neighboring towns. That is ideal. Sudden rise in economy through industrialization and modernization usually brings more social maladies if not properly managed and planned. These offset the economic gains ultimately showing a tilting balance in favor of net loss than profit.

It is not hard to visualize the effect of industrialization (sudden) to environment- depredation. Translation- polluted air, water and surrounding. Conversion- diseases among residence, animals and plants, depletion of potable water, drop in electric power supply, unabated garbage and scant delivery of basic services. That is the dictate of the law of demand and supply. There is limited supply but there is unlimited demand therefore high cost of goods and services. It is hard to allocate scarce resources to unlimited end users. Net effect - higher cost of living due to high cost of food stuff, power, water, hospitalization, housing, personal services and security. A relax and simple life eventually will turn into a rat race.

Basic Services

Though its easy now to enroll in different schools in the Poblacion the fear of accidents, lure of students indulgence to modern electronic wizardry and other vices obliged and duty bound the mayor to devise a scheme to involve the parents while at home to help look after their kids attending classes. How? The good mayor extended the annex high schools and day care centers to strategic locations in the Barangays. Parents can monitor their offspring, Gone were the days soon when student instead of attending schools were found belatedly addicted to vices and dropped out of school sans the knowledge of the parents.. The concept of the system to Mayor Amante, is smple. It must be responsive, inexpensive with community participation.

So that the high school graduates s will no longer venture to go in Metro Manila, a college institution is put up. The Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo and soon should, from the desire of the Mayor, evolve into Pamantasan.. The institution is expected to serve thousands of poor but well deserving students.

Garbage? Every Barangay have garbage collectors collecting regularly the waste to be dumped on a modest landfill constructed to meet the requirements of law to regulate garbage pollution. San Pablo City in region four could be among the pioneer in that laudable project. The City Government has put in place a systematic garbage disposal. The Mayor wishes the people to be more responsible and cooperative in the manner of disposing of their own waste to serve the purpose of the dumpsite. The minimization of waste and it supervised disposal would control if not totally eradicate its ill side effects.

Healthy people are productive constituents. For that concept alone, the city allocated millions of pesos to see to assure that no one in San Pablo would die of any illness without being medically attended. But that is the reaction side. Millions more are allocated to preventive measures. Vaccinations were administered free, eradication of the potential sources of communicable and transmittable diseases define for remedial measures in the like of mosquitoes , rats and rabies. Dental services are in place too.

The support institutions were made available. The City has many ambulances, puericulture centers, mobile clinic and Botika sa Barangay effectively manned by Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and other health workers. Among his ambitious projects in line with free health services is the establishment of a the much maligned and constantly blocked San Pablo City General Hospital. Having tertiary hospital on its budget is gargantuan task for the city to undertake. But, who else if not me to start it? When if not now to initiate it? Those are opt repeated questions of the Mayor. I want to start it now so that my predecessor will have something to continue. A thousand mile travel starts with a small step. There is nothing I will hesitate to venture if it will advance the welfare of our people, he stresses.

Indigency Office? The office help thousands of people every year but he is not proud of it. He maintains the office because he is aware that poverty is still occupying a prominent slot in the hierarchy of national problem. Indigency program is nothing but palliative measure to alleviate for a while immediate needs. He is looking forward someday that the Office through his programs of governance would become totally irrelevant.

CULTURE

The training and development of mind, the refinement of taste and manner acquired by such training, the social and religious structures and intellectual and artistic manifestation that characterize a society as a whole is culture. The basic foundation of orderly society is well cultured people. That includes education and discipline manifested on how we treasure our heritage, our values and traditions, the spirit of our heroes through nationalism and pride of our distinct identity as San Pableno... The sense of belonging. teaches us to get involve and think as a member of a community.

As we look back San Pablo is starting a Museum. The projects have the all out support of the City Government. The traditions of our forefather are not only maintained these are also enhanced. We actually evolve our fiesta celebration into Cocofestival. The city corroborates in the holding of lengthen procession to commemorate the suffering of Jesus Christ. In addition to religious tone these two occasion have evolved into tourist attraction boasting too the economy. The city has embarked to in protecting or restoring land mark building and structures. Meaning we treasure our heritage and we give due recognition to the achievement of our ancestors. On the aspect of discipline there is much to be desired. But we are moving positively because of people getting aware of the need to be involved.

Political Leadership

Put things in order and peace will follow. In San Pablo City no one is above the law. Even the mayor, his relatives and close associates observe it. From more than a decade the Honorable Mayor has been in the helm of power no one can point an accusing finger to him of committing abuses . He is too soft hearted, his main strength but probably his main weakness too.

Police and traffic enforcers are now very visible. It is pre-emptive measure to deter would be criminals. Walking the City at night is not a fearsome experience. More support is thrown to law enforcers in term of office supplies, gasoline and vehicles.. Police now can attend with dispatch to any call for assistance.

Accident among school children is rare even in the busiest streets and highways teeming with pupils and vehicles. The Barangay officials through the coordination of the Mayor involve themselves to assure the safety of children. The parents have peace of mind that their sons and daughters are not in danger from reckless drivers and other lawless elements

But what he considers as the crowning glory of his political career and leadership is the manifest trust and confidence given him by the electorate of San Pablo City. He was given a fresh mandate with a very wide margin of approval over the fact that he has little money to spend. Such approval was compounded by the fact that he has a brother re-elected too in the Sangguniang Panlunsod in the person of Dante B. Amante. The euporia did not end there. More love is pour on him by the people when his grand daughter Tintin Amante was chosen by peers to head the Sangguniang Kabataan. Probably to complete his day but I hope he will not get drunk with the so much confidence bestowed on him, another brother is sent to Sangguniang Panlunsod via presidency in the Liga ng Mga Barangay. Gener B. Amante or Ma Gener to many. And as assurance that the position will not go to other undeserving personality in case Ma Gener by twist of luck is ruled not qualified ( though even technically we find no impediment in his re-election) the extended will of the people is capped and punctuated by Carmelita “ Na Lita” was mandated to become Vice president of the Liga.

With the entire overwhelming mandate he had, the mayor cannot rest on his laurel. In his somewhat jittery voice, he categorically avers, such trust is coupled with high expectation. He hopes to live up with the measure and deliver the expectation. He only expound that he is but a human being, not a superman so please don’t expect more than I can do. I will exert all my best to fulfill the demand of my office but my limitation is there so please bear with me for I will not let you down.

I rate the present administration just very good so that there would always be forever a room for improvement. In a scale of one to ten let us give eight and a half. We have provably needed to thank the oppositions for a job well done. At least though in some aspect the fiscalising is not constructive, the administration is kept on its toe. And watch its steps. CONGRATULATION!!! (sandy belarmino/ vp seven lakes press corps)

(Ruben E. Taningco-seven lakes press corps)
